Multi Tasking is a LIE

It’s a LIE!  Multitasking is a scam and not to be admired. It is not a fantastic skill, a sign of productivity, or efficiency. Multitasking is Lie, so please don’t bragged about in job interviews or wear it around as a badge of honor.

Multitasking is an illusion, because the brain can only do one thing at a time. Multitasking is just rapid task-switching. The focus bounces back and forth between activities so quickly that it feels like we’re doing them simultaneously. For example, answering an email while listening to a meeting, checking text’s while helping a child, or scrolling social media while watching a movie.

It’s subject switching, not multitasking

Also, there is a price to pay, because doing subject switching has a cost. Attention is lost, mistakes are made, stress rises, and the quality of conversations and relationships quickly decline. In short, we are actually worse off rather than better off.

The myth lives on because multitasking is falsely labeled, advertised, and thought of. We foolishly feel busy, important, accomplished, and productive.

But, being busy is not the same as being effective, because slowing down actually get’s more quality work done.

The Take away:

Feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or scattered lately? The problem is not be that you have too much to do; The problem may be that you’ve been trying to do too many things at once.

The multitasking scam has convinced us to divide our attention, when focused attention is our actual superpower
